Port Adelaide was this morning made aware of an image showing four of its players in attendance at the Australian Olympic swimming trials last night.

The image was a screenshot from the swimming broadcast of a point in time when the players were not wearing masks in the indoor aquatic centre.

Upon being made aware, the club immediately informed the AFL’s integrity department.

The AFL integrity department’s position is that the players were not under the AFL jurisdiction while attending the swimming trials as spectators in their personal time. As a result no sanction will apply.

Port Adelaide General Manager – Football Chris Davies said all four players willingly assisted the AFL with their investigation.

“The players had purchased food and beverages earlier and had placed their food and drinks in front of them during the race. Their masks were placed on their laps at the time.

“Once they had finished eating and drinking they put their masks back on as required.

“The aquatic centre confirmed today they had COVID officials at the event last night and at no point did they request for our players to put their masks back on.

“The players involved voluntarily sent their credit card statements to the AFL today to ensure the timing coincided with when they were captured in that photo.”

Davies said this would serve as a timely reminder to the club’s playing group regarding COVID protocols that remain in place.

“The State Government and SA Health have done an outstanding job in managing the impact of COVID here in South Australia,” Davies said.

“This is another reminder to us all that strict protocols still remain place when attending various indoor events and we will continue to educate our players and staff in this regard.”
