PORT Adelaide skipper Warren Tredrea is likely to miss the rest of the season after injuring his shoulder in the loss to Fremantle on Sunday.

Tredrea, who kicked four goals before colliding with the AAMI Stadium turf last weekend, is expected to require a full reconstruction on his shoulder, which will keep him out of action for up to six months. Tredrea was scheduled to have scans on Monday afternoon.

“The odds are, Tredders will have a total shoulder reconstruction; we think it will happen that way, which obviously means he won’t play again this year,” coach Mark Williams said on Monday.

“He’s disappointed with the shoulder injury because his last few games have been pretty good and I thought he played really well on Sunday, especially coming off of the Kangaroos game, which was probably his worst game.”

Tredrea, who turns 30 later this year, is out of contract at the end of the season, but Williams has already guaranteed the four-time All-Australian a place on the list for 2009.

“We talked to Warren about his future and he’s certainly going to be offered a contract for next year,” Williams said.

“This year, I’ve really noticed his passion for tackling and chasing and things that we haven’t really seen for his whole career, so that’s been great.

“His attitude is one of disappointment for the club and where we are, but he’s pretty confident [he can come back]. He’s a determined guy and if he can overcome the knee injuries he’s had, this is pretty run of the mill for him.”

In-form midfielder Steven Salopek is also likely to miss the remaining five games after suffering a recurrence of his achilles tendon strain on Sunday.

The club will have to wait until later in the week before the extent of Troy Chaplin’s ankle injury is known, but the defender is unlikely to play against St Kilda this week.

Vice-captain Shaun Burgoyne will lead the side in the absence of Tredrea, Chad Cornes, Brendon Lade and Michael Wilson.
