PORT ADELAIDE utility Justin Westhoff says he has never enjoyed his football as much as this year, and wants to play on in 2019.

At 31, Westhoff is the oldest player on the Power’s list but the 200-centimetre forward who often plays on the ball, shares ruck duties and sometimes drops into defence, has shown no signs of slowing down.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” he said on Adelaide radio station FiveAA.

“There’s a little bit of excitement around the club and I probably haven’t enjoyed my footy as much as I have this year.

“A little bit of freedom to play a variety of roles is always good and I don’t know, there’s just seems to be a good vibe around the club with the coaches and the players.”

Westhoff was taken by the club with pick 71 in the 2006 national draft.

He has played 237 games and booted 274 goals since making his debut against Hawthorn in Round 10, 2007.

The Central District product said he was keen to play on with the Power next year but would discuss his future with his family and the club in the coming weeks.

“It doesn’t feel like I’m ageing any more or less, it still feels like I’m having a good time,” he said.

“So it just seems a good place to be at the moment.”

Westhoff played a vital role in his side’s 14-point win over Richmond on Friday night.

He had three goals in the first half and finished with 23 disposals, ten hit-outs, and three marks, but said it was a whole team effort which has been lacking in 2018.

“We probably haven’t been hitting our straps lately over the last few weeks but it was just good to play well and play consistently throughout the whole game,” he said.

“Even though we didn’t kick goals in the second half the way we should have, we took a lot of confidence out of the game.

“They’re the reigning premiers and in pretty good form so it was good to get back to Adelaide and have a good win.”

He was particularly instrumental in the second quarter when the Power booted seven goals to two to set up the win.

Westhoff said it was the kind of football he hoped would be on show when Port hosts the Western Bulldogs on Thursday night.

“We’ve shown signs of it, but just not on a consistent basis,” he said.

“We need to bring that more often if we want to do anything this year and I think last week we probably put our first steps forward towards doing that for a whole game.”
