PORT ADELAIDE holds a great hand at the 2018 AFL National Draft with three first round picks.
After a strong trade period, the Power will go into the draft with picks 5,10 and 15 – holding three picks in the third round for just the third time.
In advance of the draft, portadelaidefc.com.au has taken a look at some of the best players to be taken with picks 5, 10 and 15 over the years.
In today’s second edition, we look at the best players taken with pick 10.
Pick 10
Trent Ormond-Allen is a name some Port Adelaide supporters would be familiar with after he played much of his career for the club in the SANFL. He was the 1993 pick 10, taken from the Magpies to Melbourne. Later traded to Adelaide, he was unlucky to have missed both the 1997 and 1998 premiership wins but he finally tasted premiership success with the Magpies in the SANFL in 1998.
While Phil Davis and Joe Daniher are stars in their own right, and were each claimed with pick 10 (in 2008 and 2012 respectively), there are a couple of stand-out pick 10s we have chosen to highlight.
Essendon used pick 10 to claim Blake Caracella in 1994 and he went on to win premierships with the Bombers and Brisbane. A nasty injury saw him finish his career at Collingwood on 187 games and 218 goals. He has gone on to become a highly rated assistant coach, including being part of the team behind Geelong’s 2011 premiership and Richmond’s 2017 premiership.
Patrick Dangerfield was taken by Adelaide with pick 10 back in 2007. After 154 games, 163 goals and a club best and fairest with Adelaide, he joined Geelong where in his first year in 2016 he won the Brownlow Medal as the league’s best and fairest player. The six-time All-Australian has won a further two club best and fairest awards and has now played 224 games for 256 goals.
