PORT ADELAIDE suffered its second consecutive loss on the weekend, going down to Richmond by 38 points at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. Here are some of the talking points.
Amon has become a very important outside runner for the Power:
Karl Amon equalled his career-best tally of 28 disposals against Richmond in Round 18.
Amon also took five marks and booted two goals against the Tigers, to be one of the Power’s shining lights on an otherwise disappointing outing.
The 23-year-old has registered career-highs for kicks, handballs, disposals, marks, tackles and AFL Fantasy points this season.
Broadbent was impressive in his return to senior football:
Matthew Broadbent played two games in the SANFL after returning to the club from personal leave, before returning for the Power on the weekend.
Broadbent had 26 touches and nine marks in Saturday’s loss, and looked like he hadn’t missed a beat at AFL level.
Tigers on top in contested battle:
Richmond beat Port in the midfield battle - an area Ken Hinkley says is pivotal to his side’s overall performance.
While the Power won the clearances 37-24, the Tigers had 21 more contested possessions, laid three more tackles and had nine more inside 50s.
Dustin Martin and Dion Prestia led the way for the home side, each collecting 30 disposals, while the latter had a game-high 13 contested possessions.
