Midfielders Travis Boak and Sam Powell-Pepper were the only Port Adelaide players to be recognised by the coaches for their performances following the club’s disappointing loss to Hawthorn on Saturday night.
Boak and Powell-Pepper each received one vote in the 2022 AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award following the Round 2 loss.
Despite his side’s loss, Boak worked typically hard, winning a game-high 39 disposals and eleven clearances.
The 33-year-old showed he was also happy to get his hands dirty, recording nine tackles – second only to teammate Zak Butters’ 11 for the night.
Powell-Pepper provided a rare spark for his side and was the only Port Adelaide player to record multiple goals. He had three on the night to go with his 17 disposals, five tackles and five clearances.
Predictably, given the result, the Hawks dominated the coaches’ votes.
Mitch Lewis’ five goal effort saw him receive nine votes, while James Sicily and Dylan Moore each grabbed five votes. Jack Scrimshaw (four votes), Blake Hardwick (three) and Jack Gunston made up the rest of the vote getters.
Five players received the perfect 10 votes across the competition including Carlton’s Patrick Cripps and Melbourne’s Christian Petracca who are the overall leaders after each also received full marks in Round 1.
Others to get 10 votes in Round 2 included Brisbane’s Lachie Neale, North Melbourne’s Nick Larkey, and Sydney’s Isaac Heeney.
