FOUR Port Adelaide players drew the attention of the Match Review Officer following Friday night’s Showdown LI.
Defenders Trent McKenzie, Sam Skinner and Darcy Byrne-Jones each received fines for various offences while midfielder/forward Sam Mayes was sanctioned for striking.
McKenzie can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea after being charged with wrestling Crows forward Lachlan Gollant in the first quarter of the match.
For his part in the wrestling, Gollant was offered the same fine.
Skinner was charged with rough conduct for a dangerous tackle on Gollant in the second quarter of the match.
The incident was classified as careless, high and with low impact so while it is considered a $3000 fine, Skinner can accept a $2000 sanction with an early plea.
Byrne-Jone was cited for engaging in front on contact against Adelaide’s Ben Keays during the third quarter.
The MRO described the incident as careless, high and with low impact and like Skinner, Byrne-Jones can have his $3000 fine downgraded to $2000 if he enters an early guilty plea.
Mayes was fined $3000 for his striking offence but a guilty plea will see him escape paying just $2000.
His offence came in the dying seconds of the contest on Lachlan Murphy and while it was given at the time as a high tackle, was deemed by the MRO to be body contact with low impact and intentional.
Another Port player, Dan Houston was reported on the night for a dangerous tackle but the MRO determined that his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and the report overturned.
