Dear members and supporters,

Well, we’re right into the season now and both the Power and Maggies are getting the job done on the field, and things are just as big off it!

First, to China. Our administrative team are in the final stage of preparation, passports are done, the finishing touches are being put on our events, we’re just about ready to go!

For those travelling over, the excitement will be building, and when you get there, you’ll be wowed by the completely different world that is Shanghai. Just remember, as always, to follow the best available travel advice from DFAT before you go, stick together, look after yourself and have a great time!

We know how much of an effort you are making just to get to China…and we are hell bent on making your trip one that you will always remember. But more about that next week.

The purpose of this email is to remind everyone that even though the hype about China is building, we still have a job to do this weekend.

There are two big games for our boys to get through.

First, Saturday arvo, twilight footy, big game.

The Eagles are side-by-side with us on the ladder and we need to get the job done.

Boaky, our skipper, is back into the side and fit and firing. Charlie’s marking strongly and Chaddy had a ripper last weekend. But lets not forget – our 4:2 ledger is on the back of team footy, and if players can keep this form and cohesion going, we’ll be going home happy on Saturday night!

Then. Sunday. Alberton Oval. 2.10pm.

We play Sturt – the defending premiers – at home. The Magpies are three-and-one and looking really strong.

But if that wasn’t enough reason to get out to Alberton, then this is.

It’s the 200th game of our Maggies skipper Steven Summerton.

Summo is about as loyal as they come. I remember when we first looked at restructuring our football program, he was one of the most vocal opponents and, even now, I appreciate why – it wasn’t easy for any of the blokes playing for the Magpies in 2013, and for our club it was a difficult time.

Why did Summo stay? I think the simple answer is because of his love for Port Adelaide.

He has been an impeccable captain for our club since 2014, he led us to a grand final in his first year, he has played career-best football and still wears his heart on his sleeve.

Everyone at Port Adelaide is indebted to him for his service over the last 199 games, and on Sunday he will likely become the last man to play 200 games in the prison bar jumper.

I can’t think of a more worthy candidate.

It would be great to see as many of our faithful members and supporters out there to show him how much he means to this football club – our community, our family.

There’s not much else to be said, other than bring on the weekend!
