PORT ADELAIDE captain Erin Phillips will reach yet another milestone in her career this Saturday, but the inaugural Power signing is more focused on shining a light on Indigenous Round.

“It's an incredibly special round and obviously I’m very, very honoured and privileged to play 50 games, but I’m more honoured to play in this particular round, in Indigenous Round, and to wear the guernsey, which means so much to our club and our team and the broader community,” Phillips said.

“It will be absolutely special and the guernseys are probably going to make us jump a little higher and run a little faster, so it’s something that we will definitely be getting behind.”

After a nail-biting draw against Carlton on Sunday, the Port women are chasing their first win, as are their Round Four opponents, Sydney.

“We don’t compare ourselves to any other team, but we can look back on the last three rounds and we had two really good opportunities to get a win,” Phillips said.

“We were leading in West Coast and last week against Carlton – that's growth. Sydney plays an incredibly brave style. They love to play down the corridor, risky footy, and that can be really, really dangerous so we're not taking anything lightly.

“We've got to get the job done, we’re both desperate to win our first game and we’d like to do it this weekend.”

With Gemma Houghton injured, Phillips made the move forward last weekend, which paid off for the AFLW stalwart.

“I feel every week I get more comfortable,” she said.

“I obviously played some mid early, and a lot more forward with Gemma out so I’m just finding my groove, but I love every second of playing with this team and hopefully my form can pick up and I can help the team get our first win.

“(Gemma’s) a massive loss, but while she’s not out on the field, she’s a voice around us and you’ve just got to do what you can when a great player like Gem goes out.

“You’ve just got to play and adjust and pick up the slack. I thought there were really good signs up forward, a lot more movement and girls kicking their first goals (which was) really special as well so hopefully we can find more scoring power and hit those goals on the scoreboard (this weekend).”

With the side searching for its first historic AFLW win, the three-time All-Australian believes the icing on the cake would be securing that at home.

“It would be incredibly special,” Phillips said.

“We had a massive crowd come to our first game at Alberton (and) expecting another big crowd (this week) and for people to get behind us and to hopefully get that first win would just be so, so special.

“It’s going to be an absolutely awesome game and hopefully we’re looking for that first win. A great opportunity this week.”

Saturday’s match against Sydney begins at 12:40pm ACST at Alberton Oval.
