CONNOR ROZEE says Port Adelaide has quickly shifted attention to Saturday night’s blockbuster Semi-Final against Greater Western Sydney, with little time to dwell on last week’s loss to Brisbane.

The All-Australian midfielder was among his side’s best at the Gabba and despite the disappointing result, is excited about the opportunity to play in front of a big home crowd for one last time this season.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday after an open training session well attended by supporters, Rozee discussed the positive mood amongst the group, what the side learnt from playing the Giants a month ago, and the chances of Charlie Dixon returning from injury.

Connor Rozee on the side shifting focus to taking on the Giants:

“Finals football you don’t really have that time to dwell on the previous week. We’ve got a massive game and an opportunity to get back where we could have been if we’d won on the weekend so we did a quick review and we’ve moved onto this week pretty quickly.

“The mood of the group is pretty high, we’re still in it and have an opportunity to win on the weekend and put ourselves in a prelim again.”

Connor Rozee on his side’s lack of composure at times against Brisbane last Saturday:

“One of (Brisbane’s) strengths is that they’re a mature side and have a lot of blokes who have played a heap of finals footy. We are not lacking finals footy but have a bit of a younger group so I feel like that can be a bit of a strength of ours but on the weekend, it showed with some small moments.

“I’ve got full confidence in some of our younger players that given the opportunity again they’ll perform. Again, I’m really excited to attack this week and put us back to where we could have been.”

Connor Rozee on Charlie Dixon’s potential availability and what it could mean for team selection.

“He’s come along a bit quicker than a few would have thought. He’s an integral, and has been an integral part of our side for a few years now and I’m sure if he’s fit and ready to play, he’ll definitely be a big chance.

“He was moving pretty well today and those decisions will be made later in the week.

“It’s always a good sign when you’ve got multiple people playing for the same role. Competition for spots makes everyone better.

“Ollie (Lord) is a great example. He was superb on the weekend, and I love playing with him. He’s competitive, he tries his heart out and he’s also got some polish to go with it. He’s so young and has a lot of potential.”

Connor Rozee on Ken Hinkley having long discussions with Todd Marshall while walking a lap at Alberton Oval on Tuesday:

“A lot of rubbish would have been spilled, that’s for sure. Some horse racing and a few other things but Ken’s a father figure for a lot of us at the club so I’m sure a lot of it would have been probably not even about football. He’s been a great support for me personally but also for a lot of the guys in our team and Todd especially, for what he’s gone through since he’s come to the club.

“They’ve got a great relationship and Ken’s a great person for a lot of us to rely on when things are maybe going against us or you need someone to talk to.”

Connor Rozee on the mood at Alberton leading into the Semi-Final:

“We’ve earnt the right to have a second chance at this and we’re still in with such a privileged and great opportunity to put ourselves in a prelim final so there’s not too much to be walking around sulking about.

“The weather is great and it’s finals football. There are a lot of teams sitting at home now that’d kill to be where we are right now at this point in time so all the boys are really excited for this weekend. There’s no dwelling on (last) weekend that’s for sure.”

Connor Rozee on what Port Adelaide learned from playing the Giants in Round 22:

“We’ve already looked at a few things from last time we played them. I definitely don’t think it’ll be a blow-out like it was last time. They’ve been in great form over the last few months now.

“We just can’t wait to get to Adelaide Oval. We bring what we know we can bring and we know that stacks up against the best teams so if we play four quarters of our football, I’m sure we’ll come away with a win.”

Connor Rozee on how important the support of members and fans is to the playing group:

“Everyone’s just excited to get back to Adelaide Oval in front of a home crowd. We’ve got a very loyal supporter base and I’m sure that’ll be pretty evident on the weekend.

“They’ve been great for me since I’ve got to the club and I think we’ve got one of the best supporter bases in Australia.”
