THE PORT ADELAIDE Football Club is mourning the loss of life member and four-time premiership player Ken Tierney, who passed away last week.
A talented winger or half forward flanker, Tierney played 160 games for the club across ten years following his debut in 1954.
Renowned for his foot skills, he played in a premiership win in his debut season and was also part of the sides which won the 1956, 1958 and 1959 premierships.
While injuries curtailed the latter part of his career, he did get to represent South Australia in four state games.
In 1963, Tierney was awarded Port Adelaide Life Membership and a year later received SANFL life membership.
He was also inducted into the Port Adelaide Football Club Hall of Fame in 2018 as part of the record-breaking six-in-a-row premiership teams of the 1950s.
Following Tierney’s playing days, he returned to Alberton to coach the SANFL reserves team.
The Port Adelaide Football Club extends its condolences to Tierney’s family and friends as well as his club mates.
