PORT ADELAIDE will play Essendon without the services of forward Chad Wingard after scans signalled minor damage to his hamstring following the Power’s Round 2 game.

Wingard suffered hamstring spasms against Adelaide on Saturday and was withdrawn from the game in the final quarter.

The Power decided to put the dual All-Australian in for precautionary scans on Monday evening.

Following the scan results, Port Adelaide senior coach Ken Hinkley has elected to keep Wingard out of his side’s Round 3 clash against the Bombers on Friday night.

“There was some awareness around Chad’s hamstring so we got it scanned as a precaution,” Hinkley said.

“Scans showed minor signalling [of damage] -  we respect that – and it was enough for us to be cautious with him this week.

“He will hopefully progress pretty rapidly for having a game off.”

Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) and Jay Schulz (back) will also miss the game against the Bombers.

Hinkley also confirmed Hartlett should play against GWS Giants in Round 4.

Port Adelaide hosts Essendon at the Adelaide Oval at 7.30pm ACST on Friday 8 April.
