THE results are in - Port Adelaide supporters have donated a record 1.23 tonnes of tinned fruit to charity partner Foodbank at Saturday night’s Showdown!
Each year Foodbank challenges Port supporters to dig deep and help replenish their food stocks by bringing along a non-perishable food item to the game - and in 2017 the fans didn’t disappoint.
Supporters responded to Australian Gas Networks and Foodbank’s call in true Port Adelaide form, making a record amount of stock donations and handing over a further $8,000 in cash donations!
2016: Power fans donate over 500kg of tuna to Foodbank
The much-needed fruit and money will go towards Foodbank’s School Breakfast Program, which sees many hungry Australian school children start the day with a proper meal, who otherwise wouldn’t.
Foodbank’s Partnership Manager Judi Wakeling was ecstatic with the contribution, praising Port Adelaide fans for their generosity and eagerness to help.
“This I believe is a record result and we are thrilled,” she told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“Many supporters came up and said how proud they were of their club for doing this and were absolutely fantastic.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the Port Supporters and their wonderful ongoing support to Foodbank.”
This result tops off a memorable night for the club, with the home Showdown marking a record crowd at Adelaide Oval of 53,698.
