ONE OF the most complex days of AFL trading lies ahead as the clock ticks down to Wednesday's 8.30pm deadline for the NAB AFL Trade Period.

A host of big names remain on the table, and many could get their desired move in one massive multi-club deal.

All aboard for Deadline Day's mega deal

As reported on AFL.com.au, an enormous final-day trade is in the works that could involve nearly half the clubs in the competition.

Eight individual clubs are involved in this proposed deal that will see Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast, Hawthorn and Greater Western Sydney throw picks and players up in the air, each hoping for the best outcome.

Lachie Neale's passage to Brisbane for NAB AFL Draft pick No.5 is expected to set the dominos tumbling, freeing Fremantle to use the No.5 pick in a deal for Jesse Hogan.

Then, the Demons are free to make a play for Steven May with the first-round pick.

Fairfax Media is reporting Chad Wingard could be linked into the trade and be exchanged to the Hawks from the Power for Ryan Burton and pick 15.

Another twist could see Jack Hombsch move to Gold Coast, with the Port Adelaide defender potentially in demand by the Suns if May moves to Melbourne.

The Dayne Beams to Collingwood proposition appears the most problematic. The Magpies are struggling to fulfil the Lions' demand for two first-round picks from this year.

And, Fairfax Media says the Lions want the entire Beams deal cut out of the proposed mega-trade altogether.

Whatever happens, it's going to be fascinating to watch this tower of cards be assembled, and possibly crumble in some parts.

Neale deal holds the key

Central to any action happening on the last day appears to be Neale's desired move to the Lions.

News Limited believes the mega-trade could 'only' involve six clubs, and says the Dockers have softened on their stance on the contracted midfielder.

The report says the Dockers are prepared to let him go if they can guarantee securing Hogan and Giants ruckman Rory Lobb.

The Giants have been reported to want pick No.11 from the Dockers for Lobb, but Freo wants to deal with No.23 instead.

Shiel stand-off

A deal to send Dylan Shiel to Tullamarine came no closer to a resolution on Tuesday.

News Limited claims the Bombers' offer of picks No.9 and No.34, plus an exchange of future picks, has fallen on deaf ears at the Giants.

GWS wants two first-round draft picks for the contracted midfielder, who last week picked Essendon ahead of St Kilda, Hawthorn and Carlton.

In other news

- Tim Kelly is prepared to stay in Geelong for another 12 months if his wanted trade to West Coast falls through, with no movement on the Eagles securing the Cats' asking price of a top-10 pick says News Limited.

- Seven Magpies were confirmed to have signed new deals in the last few months on Tuesday, but Jarryd Blair remains on the outer. AFL.com.au reported Levi Greenwood and Brody Mihocek remained in negotiations while Channel 7confirmed Tyson Goldsack will sign a one-year deal after trade period.

- Beams apparently wants to go to the Magpies but his former club isn't as keen on him. News Limited says the Pies were "not desperate" to land the 28-year-old, as they viewed his potential acquisition as a "bonus addition" to their already-strong midfield.
