THE results are in – Port Adelaide supporters donated a whopping 520 kilograms of tuna to club charity partner Foodbank at Friday night’s clash against Essendon!

That equates to well over 1,000 cans of tuna, along with over $7,000 in cash contributed to donation tins around the oval.

EnergyAustralia teamed up with the club’s charity partner, Foodbank, asking the Port faithful to bring along a can of tuna and a few dollars to drop in their donation bins on the night.

And the true believers responded to their call.

Hundreds of kilos of tuna and thousands of dollars later, Foodbank is well on track to helping get meals on the table for hungry South Australians.

According to Foodbank SA’s marketing and fundraising manager Raquel Dillon, the demand for canned tuna among food welfare partners and schools in SA is high.

“There are some items that we never get enough donations of and tuna is at the top of our list,” she told Portadelaidefc.com.au

“Foodbank usually have to buy tuna to offer to our welfare partners and schools across South Australia, so any donations of this much needed, healthy item makes a huge difference.”

Thanks to the generosity of Port Adelaide supporters and EnergyAustralia, the tuna and cash donations from this game alone are set to provide over 15,000 meals to those currently doing it tough in Adelaide’s metro, country and regional areas.

“They are South Australians who do not know where their next meal is coming from and very rarely can enjoy some tuna in their meals,” Raquel said.

“It is through your continued support that we are able to put hunger in SA in the spotlight and at the same time, raise funds and donations of much-needed resources and food to keep us on the fight against hunger.”
