portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at three dangerous forces in the Bombers’ ranks ahead of the Power’s Friday night clash at Adelaide Oval.
David Zaharakis
Off the back of an injury plagued 2015, Zaharakis has come out all engines firing this year, returning to his outstanding 2014 form.
With key midfielders Dyson Heppell and Jobe Watson suspended, the 26-year-old has stepped up his game, emerging as a key ball-mover for the young side with an average of 33 disposals in the first two rounds of 2016.
He’s a force around stoppages, currently leading the AFL count for inside 50s, totalling 18 after Round 2.
He can also hit the scoreboard under pressure - he kicked two against the Suns in Round 1.
The Power needs to limit his opportunities inside 50, both as a link-up to their forward line and as a goal kicker himself.
Joe Daniher
Limiting this key forward’s scoreboard impact will be a big task for the Power’s backline on Friday night.
Daniher’s accuracy in front of goal has earned him the Bombers’ highest goal kicker title for the past two seasons, and he’s currently sitting second for the club with three majors to his name.
The 201cm big man also currently rates second in the club for inside 50s, just behind Zaharakis.
Defenders Hombsch, Pittard and Jonas will have a task against Daniher - he took a whopping 15 marks in his 50th game for the Dons in their win over Melbourne last week, topping the AFL for the most marks of the round.
Darcy Parish
Identifying him as the best midfielder in the draft, the Bombers secured this young gun at pick No. 5 – a decision they won’t be regretting after last week (he kicked the sealer against Melbourne to deliver the Dons their first win of the year).
The 18-year-old is a ready-made footballer, having already proved his ability to handle the game at the top level in the first two rounds.
Parish followed up an impressive debut against in Round 1 with a 21-disposal, eight tackle and one goal performance in their wins over the Dees last week – earning himself a NAB rising star nomination for the round.
Just two games into his career, his hard, contested and courageous style leaves him leading the Bombers for tackles (8).
Port Adelaide hosts Essendon in Round 3 on Friday, April 8 at 7:20pm (ACST).
