Port Adelaide has secured the future of forward Brett Ebert, with the 24 year-old putting pen to paper on a new three-year deal to keep him at the club until the end of 2011.

Ebert was drafted in 2002 as the club’s first and only father-son selection and has since played 92 games booting 144 goals.

The strong-marking forward had an outstanding 2007 season, leading the club’s goal kicking with 56 goals, and has backed that up this year with 29 goals from 13 games.

Port Adelaide senior coach Mark Williams said it was important to secure the future of another of the Power’s young stars.

“Brett’s improvement over the past coupe of seasons is a real credit to him,” Williams said.

“To now be at the point where he’s earned a long-term contract with our club says a lot for how far he’s come, and is a credit to our development program as well.

“We’re really looking forward to what he can bring us in the years ahead.”

Ebert paid tribute to Williams, saying he’d been a great influence on his development at Port Adelaide.

“The way he (Williams) has worked with me has been outstanding, he’s a great coach,” Ebert said.

“It’s great to be able to stay at the same club and stay with the same bunch of guys and the same coaching staff. The club has shown a bit of faith in me, so now it’s up to me to repay that on the field.

“We’ve still got six games to go and we just want to finish off the season well by getting some wins on the board.”

Ebert and teammate Troy Chaplin today helped Alberton Primary School students plant 60 seedlings at their school to promote National Tree Day this Sunday.
