PORT Adelaide's development team witnessed a number of games this weekend with key Power players impressing in the local ranks.
Daniel Healy saw West Adelaide pull off a surprise win over Central District with Ben Newton continuing to improve in the reserves for the Bloods.
Matthew Nicks saw the Roosters go down to the Tigers at Prospect with several Power-listed players lining up for both sides - Steven Salopek proving particularly impressive for Glenelg as he continues to enhance his match fitness.
Tyson Edwards saw Norwood demolish the Eagles at The Parade, with a range of Power players instrumental in the Redlegs' big win
Brett Ebert (for Port Adelaide v Subiaco Lions)
Brett had a really good performance and was named best on ground with a 20 possession effort in a shortened game. He kicked a goal to seal the game as well so that was a big positive for the Magpies. Brett’s come back from injury and is in his fourth or fifth game and is looking really pleasing.
Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Eagles)
Played in the backline and didn’t see a lot of the ball, Norwood dominating the game being the main reason. Once again he hardly got beaten and outperformed his opponent, as well as working on his offensive approach and spread - so solid work from him again this week.
Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Eagles)
Kicked 5.2 for Norwood at half forward. He was a really good contributor for the Legs and played really well all night. Flipper saw a fair bit of the ball generally and he’s certainly doing all the right things from where we sit.
Brent Renouf (for Redlegs v Eagles)
Brent played in the ruck and did quite well. He improved throughout the game went on as far as his hit-outs and willingness to jump at the ball in the contest. He finished with two goals as well - one of which was a goal assist from Phillips - so he left the night with some good rewards.
Darren Pfeiffer (for Redlegs v Eagles)
Played midfield the first half and was very good - ran offensively, defended well and was proactive with the possessions he got. He finished with a really good game, which is very encouraging for him considering he’s had a couple of weeks off!
Steven Salopek (for Tigers v Roosters)
Steve played for Glenelg and has his best game for the year thus far. Picked up 29 possessions with really hard run and really good spread. It was really good, impressive stuff by Sal and he’ll take a lot of confidence out of that game.
Andy played in the reserves for North and kicked 2.2 and got a fair bit of the ball - stoppage work was an improvement this week which we’ve been working on with him so that was particularly good to see.
Aaron Young (for Roosters v Tigers)
Youngy played half forward. Probably didn’t get as much football as he would have liked, but he worked into the game and went to the wing in the last quarter where he got more of the ball late in the game so he left on a higher note as a result of that.
Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Tigers)
Blee started on the bench and game on playing a key position down back. A lot better from Bleezy this week and he put in a really competitive effort - really restricting his opponent - in a side that struggled to contain the other forwards so a good result for him.
Ben Newton (For Bloods reserves v Bulldogs)
Ben got 28 possessions and 8 clearances in what was a really pleasing performance. He’s just slowly chipping away week after week and getting better and better after returning from injury. We’re really pleased with his progress and this was probably the most complete game he’s had during his 1.5 years at the club. He’s been working really hard at stoppages and that’s highlighted by the 8 clearances.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Bulldogs)
Had a really quiet first half where he wasn’t able to influence the game a lot, but came good in the second half. Webby’s being working really hard at improving his competitiveness over the last year and it shows now where he puts in more consistent and competitive efforts every contest. He ended up with 12 possessions and 6 marks and was very important late in the game to help the Bloods get over the line.
