1. Brad Ebert
Ebert played his best game for the year against the Swans last weekend. As acting captain he led from the front with 26 disposals and nine tackles. Having struggled to recapture his 2012 form early this year, Ebert has been strong and solid against the Bulldogs, Giants and Swans. Undoubtedly his leadership is critical to the team and with his own form starting to match the impeccable quality he delivers as a senior leader, he’s in store for a big game.
2. Chad Wingard
Is he in All-Australian form? Some seem to think so and certainly Wingard has been one of the biggest impact players for Port Adelaide in 2013. His three goals last week has put him two adrift of key forward Jay Schulz in the club’s goal kicking race and his regular efforts linking up through the midfield or setting up teammates at close range have been pivotal in the Power’s wins this year. Senior coach Ken Hinkley says Wingard relished the opportunity to take on Sydney at their own game and he will surely look forward to taking on another gun side this week.
3. Dom Cassisi
His return game from injury last weekend was a typical ‘Dom’ performance and undeniably effective for the Power. He had 20 disposals, eight tackles and simply provided grunt to the team’s defensive efforts throughout the day. The old guard of the club – particularly Cassisi and fellow veteran Kane Cornes – hasn’t lost its bark and Port will certainly need its experienced former captain to continue his return form this week against Collingwood.
Final Word
Last week we started the Final Word by reflecting on Port Adelaide’s recent poor record against Sydney. This week we can do the same: the Power hasn’t beaten Collingwood since a thrilling 2007 win at the MCG.
But this Saturday evening’s game against Collingwood has all the makings of a classic AAMI Stadium battle!
History means nothing as Port showed last week and with both clubs locked in a battle for seventh spot on the ladder, the Power will be fully focussed on the task at hand.
Yes, Collingwood are favourites, but the Power was 8-1 last weekend and proved the pundits wrong with a stirring second half performance.
The Power's thrilling second half against the Swans also disguised a very solid effort in the opening two quarters where the Power held with the reigning premiers.
That’s what it needs to do again this weekend against Collingwood.
The Pies will be no easy-beats, indeed they are a form side of the competition and have been for the last five years.
They are also hoping to welcome back two key players in Travis Cloke and Luke Ball, while the Power has close to a full list to choose from.
With Jackson Trengove likely to be fit and Travis Boak a chance to be cleared to return from injury early, Port could take on the Magpies with a close to full strength side.
It's a mighty challenge for the Power but one that it's up to - expect a cracker!
