Brett Montgomery made his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at the mature age of 23, playing 60 games and kicking 54 goals in three seasons.
Montgomery was traded to Port Adelaide in 2000 where he won the John Cahill Medal in his first season at the club.
He continued his cracking form in 2002 where he won All-Australian honours for the first time in his career.
In 2004, he was a member of the club's inaugural AFL premiership.
The silky ball-user played 126 games in his stint at Port before heading back to the Bulldogs for a further two seasons.
Montgomery signed on as assistant coach at Carlton in 2007 where he looked after the defence for three years.
In 2010, he returned to the Bulldogs for a third time - this time as an assistant coach.
At the end of the 2018 season, Montgomery was offered an assistant coaching role at Port where he looked after the defensive group.
With a reshuffle to the coaching structure at the end of the 2021 season, Brett Montgomery took over the Midfield Assistant coaching role.
