Former Adelaide Crows midfielder Scott Thompson began his transition to coaching while acting as a mentor to young midfielders during the latter stages of his time with the Crows.
Originally a Port Adelaide junior after joining the club in 1995, Thompson played eight games with the reserves before being taken by Melbourne with pick 16 in the 2000 National Draft.
Traded to the Crows before the 2004 season he played his lone senior game with the Magpies in the SANFL that year.
Best known for his consistency and ability to find the contested ball, Thompson went on to win two club champion awards with Adelaide and earned All-Australian selection in 2012 before retiring at the end of the 2017 season after a total of 308 AFL games.
He returned to Alberton as a midfield development coach on a two-year contract at the end of 2017.
