THE 2017 season is over for Jackson Trengove, Aaron Young and Matthew Broadbent.
Following the Power’s loss to West Coast in the AFL First Elimination Final on Saturday night, the trio are the unlucky collateral damage who must be withdrawn from the Magpies’ line-up for Sunday’s SANFL semi against Woodville-West Torrens.
Rather than treating a match weekend as the selection period, the SANFL rules stipulate Port Adelaide’s squad selection must change the moment the Power are no longer an active finals competitor.
As of Saturday night, those eligible for Magpies duties must:
- Have played the majority of their season in the SANFL (i.e. at least one SANFL game more than the number of AFL games played).
- Have played three SANFL games after June 30.
Broadbent, Trengove and Young fail to meet these requirements.
It means all three of Port’s AFL players named on its extended bench in the form of Jesse Palmer, Cam Hewett and Emannuel Irra will play on Sunday.
Peter Ladhams will also be elevated into the team after being held over from yesterday's reserves game.
Port Adelaide’s final team will be released at 2.30pm on Sunday ahead of the first bounce at 3.10pm.
