There’s a tiny spark…

In Port Adelaide’s quest for finals, but now more than ever does every hypothetical win matter. Simply, Port must win every game. It also relies on North Melbourne losing every game, and making sure St Kilda doesn’t go through to the end of the season undefeated. It’s very remote. The Power is simply better to focus on chalking up wins and finishing the season on a positive.

Last week’s effort against the Swans was a clear-cut example of what not to do against quality finals-bound opposition. Melbourne isn’t heading to September, but after their win over Hawthorn, they’re certainly riding form.

New blood

Jesse Palmer debuts on Saturday night. He’s been in ripping SANFL form all season as a consistent forward who can kick goals, but has also been put on-ball. He has a quick turn of pace and - given this opportunity - plenty of enthusiasm. He could be the first of a wave of young players who are given a chance to cut their teeth at AFL level. If he brings the level required, he might just hold his spot, too.

Final word

Yes they’ve beaten the Hawks, and that matters. Melbourne are in form and will smell an opportunity on Saturday night. Port needs to be on from the get-go.
