Garry Hocking reviews the form of his Magpies following their tough slog against Woodville-West Torrens in the wet...

Peter Jackson Player of the Week

Ben Newton
Benny used the ball well throughout the game and was super in his defensive actions. He really kept us in the game when the Eagles started to edge closer in the second half. Ben always plays with passion and pride, which inspires our midfield group.

Karl Amon
Just lacking a little consistency in his performance at the moment. Four tackles is terrific defensively for him, but we need to see some more run and dash in offence.

Mitch Harvey
Quiet day for Mitch although he has been very good over the previous games for us. He has worked tirelessly for us as a forward/ruck and at some point as a first year player it does catch up with you. He will bounce back this week no doubt.

Steven Summerton
Very strong performance across four quarters. Summo continues to win the ball significantly, but this week he was not as efficient with ball in hand. Great leadership as always and continually looks to improve each week.

Angus Bruggemann
Battled a little this week for me, but we know he won't give up without a fight. Bruggers was pushed forward to give us a target and did a great job of this by providing a strong contest in the air as well as giving our smalls a feed.

Ben Haren
Poor game defensively at times for Ben this week, he had some big matchups with Ainger and Grocke. He will bounce back this week and get the job done for us.

Tom Logan
Started on ball again and gave us some real tough contests around stoppage and also managed to push forward early and kick two nice goals. Went back late in the game to give us some stability and composure. Good game.

Tom Clurey
Got the job on Wundke who is in some good form, competed well in aerial contests and looked to test his opponent in offence. Tommy also used the ball so much better this week rebounding from defence and needs to consistently give us this each week.

Lewis Stevenson
Second game back for Lewis where he started up on the wing and was used in the back half as well. Gave us some real run and energy and defended strongly across the four quarters.

John Butcher Started the game really well and was on the end of a very fortunate free kick at the first centre bounce. Kicked truly and he looked to be up and about early and really into the game. Butch worked really well with Shaw and Harvey and it looks like there is now some great chemistry between them all.

Anthony Biemans
A little quiet this week in terms of possession but the little things like tackles, chases and pressure he was very good. Always bobs up like a sprinkler and kicks a timely goal for us.

Cam O’Shea Another solid performance and was matched with Grocke for parts of the game, looked to get involved in our defence and with his run supported our ball movement well.

Daniel Flynn
It wasn't the best of days for Flynny on account of him being involved in an unfortunate incident with the Eagles' Chris Kane. He still needs to learn so much more about the game and understand what he can and can’t do in contests.

Sam Russell
Sam had very little impact on the game this week and I know that he is a proud person and will look to be better this week against West.

Jake Neade
Neadey was very lively and consistent across four quarters. Put enormous pressure on the opposition and looked to run and carry through the middle part of the ground.

Darcy Byrne-Jones
A couple of roles for Darcy this week gave us good defensive support as well as gave him the opportunity to go on-ball. He takes the oppo on and can test their defence. Must continue to be consistent week in week out.

Brendon Ah Chee
Arch is getting up to the level we need and had the job of curbing the Eagles' most dangerous player in Luke Jarrad. He had some real speed, power and burst in his game as well as hitting the scoreboard.

Robbie Young
A low-possession game for Robbie this week although he did hurt himself in a contest and found it difficult to play out the match. Needs to get back to his best against West.

Mason Shaw
This was by far his best performance up forward for us for the year. He worked really well with Butcher and Shaw and presented up well for us but, as importantly, he worked hard back inside 50 and took some really important marks. Going forward he must bring this effort and approach to every game.

Nathan Krakouer
Not his best performance this week against the Eagles. Found himself out of position at times and did not impact on contests or his opponent as well as he has had in other games. I am expecting a better effort from him this week.

Sam Gray
I was not happy with Sam early in the game, I thought he was not defending well enough for us. But for the next three quarters he was outstanding in both his defensive efforts and his ability to find the ball. 35 possessions and four tackles is a great reflection on him and he has good balance in his game.
