PORT Adelaide has finished its pre-season campaign strongly with a 30-point win over regining premiers Sydney.

Despite playing with extended benches, the perfect conditions at AAMI Stadium and 30-minute quarter format delivered the most comparable environment to a regular season match.

Captain Travis Boak was Port Adelaide's best player with 29 disposals, 14 of which were contested, in a stirring three goal performance.

He was ably supported through the middle by deputy Brad Ebert, himself with 25 touches and a goal, and Jasper Pittard providing excellent run from defence.

Justin Westhoff played defensively for the first half before drifiting to his customary half-forward position - his 23 touch performance highlighting his all-ground contribution.

Jackson Trengove was again strong down back for the Power while Lewis Stevenson and Campbell Heath were also noticeable contributors.

5000 supporters at the ground saw Port Adelaide start strongly with goals through Pittard, Matthew Lobbe and Boak.

Despite its strong start, Port Adelaide was challenged by the Swans all day, with the visitors closing the margin to a point midway through the third term.

But Port held the Swans at bay and managed to open up a 30-point buffer by the close of play thanks to a dominant final quarter.

Senior coach Ken Hinkley gave the entire pre-season a tick of approval.

“It’s NAB Cup form, it’s really hard to know (how it will translate into regular season form),” said Hinkley.

“From a club point of view we’ve had a solid pre-season, we’ve been strong through the NAB Cup series and now we look forward to round one.

“We’re in a position where we’ve got a good, healthy list who seems to be in reasonably good form.”

Despite good wins now to top eight candidates Sydney and West Coast, Hinkley is adamant the on-field change his players want to achieve won’t happen overnight.

“We need to keep going (with this form) because we’re coming from a long way back.”

“As I said, regardless of the results we’ve worked on our pre-season really strongly as a club and have made some inroads.”

John Butcher was the only reported injury from the match with a hand concern.

Port Adelaide will have a one week break ahead of its opening round match against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday March 31.
