Port Adelaide’s players have left the club for several days of rest, relaxation and refreshment as they take advantage of a weekend away from the brutality of AFL football.

Several players revealed their plans to PortAdelaideFC.com.au with many taking the opportunity to return to their hometowns to visit friends and family.

“I’m heading back to Melbourne for a couple of days, leaving Thursday lunchtime and coming back Sunday night,” said emerging defender Ben Jacobs.

“I’m just looking forward to catching up with family and friends and basically a bit of rest and relaxation.”

Brad Ebert, John McCarthy and Paul Stewart and their partners are travelling to the harbour city to spend their weekend away from the cut and thrust life of an AFL player in a footy-mad city.

“Me, J-Mac’ and Paul Stewart and our girlfriends are heading to Sydney for a couple of days, “ said Ebert.

“We’ll just see the normal things - the opera house, bridge and there’s a nice restaurant we’ve been told about which we’ll be checking out.”

In contrast, Brad’s cousin Brett will be staying around Adelaide to enjoy a few of the finer things in life.

“I’m just working on the car,” said Brett of his 1972 Datsun dream.

“That and spending Saturday with the family for Dad’s birthday.”

In contrast to most of the playing group, Aaron Young’s weekend is going to be spent back on the job.

“I’m not going away at all,” said Young.

“Playing for the Roosters in the SANFL this weekend.”

Meanwhile the coaching staff will remain at Alberton for a few more days to plan out the rest of the 2012 premiership season campaign.
