FORWARD Jay Schulz has been released from hospital, three days after being admitted to intensive care with internal bleeding.

Schulz was struck in the stomach by a teammate’s knee in a marking contest and although he continued playing, was taken to hospital after the game in some pain.

The courageous forward was moved to a general medical ward on Monday and his condition improved significantly.

He was released this afternoon and thanked members and fans for their support via his Twitter account.

“Glad to be out of hospital. Thanks again for all the kind words and for the people who came and visited #humbled,” Schulz tweeted.

General Manager - Football Operations Peter Rohde said Schulz would be monitored daily.

“He’s just been released from hospital and he’ll spend the next four or five days recovering, but he’ll be monitored by medical staff every day,” Rohde said.

“We’re pretty confident he’ll be back in a week or so doing some form of training.

“It’ll all depend on how quickly the blood dissolves. He’s stopped bleeding but he’s still got some blood internally in his abdomen so it’ll be a matter of when that dissolves.

“Once that’s all cleared up he’ll start training again and then he’ll play a week or two after that.

“He’ll spend the next four or five days with family and no doubt will be taking it quite easy.”
