PORT ADELAIDE has filled its Rookie List with five players via the NAB AFL Rookie Draft this morning.

Its selections, including exclusive comments from National Recruiting Manager Blair Hartley, are as follows...

Selection 4
WADE THOMPSON from North Adelaide
Born: 28 / 8 / 1988 (age 20)
Height: 174cm
Weight: 84kg
Position: small forward

Power Recruiting Manager Blair Hartley said: “He’s a small forward with extreme speed. He has a really good attack on the footy and is able to break a game open not only with his speed but also chasing and running people down. He’s played between reserves and seniors this year, and we loved what we saw when he trained with us over recent weeks. With some work on his fitness, we’re really excited what he can bring as a crumbing forward and also his defensive pressure.”

Selection 20
DANNY MEYER from Richmond
Born: 3 / 8 / 1986 (age 22)
Height: 183cm
Weight: 76kg
Position: midfield
Background: Originally from Glenelg, Meyer was drafted by Richmond at No. 12 in the 2004 NAB AFL National Draft. The highly rated junior played 17 games in four seasons, with three in the last two years.

Blair Hartley said: “Danny’s had an unfortunate run of injuries at Richmond and we were happy to get him with our second pick. He has a very good kick, and has x-factor. He was taken as high draft pick back in 2004. We can see him playing multiple roles, he can play through the midfield, he can play as a leading forward and while training with us here he has shown he can use the ball really well off half-back too, so that’s good for us. He’ll enjoy his time being back in Adelaide, it should be good for him."

Selection 35
DANIEL STEWART from North Adelaide
Born: 10 / 10 / 1988 (age 20)
Height: 200cm
Weight: 92kg
Position: ruck / key position

Blair Hartley said: “He’s a developing key position and ruckman. He has very good endurance, nice hands and a balanced left foot kick. He’s played some good football in the seniors for North Adelaide this year after coming down from Labrador in Queensland a year earlier. He impressed us with our training out here. He can play multiple roles, and has shown he can play forward in our training and has ability in the ruck.”

Selection 49
MATTHEW MARTIN from West Adelaide
Born: 23 / 2 / 1990 (age 18)
Height: 191cm
Weight: 99kg
Position: key forward / back

Blair Hartley said: “Powerfully built key position prospect that has shown ability to play key forward and key back in West Adelaide’s senior side. He was a state U18 representative for SA this year. He has really nice hands, a nice kick for his size and good straight line speed. He’s a developing prospect and we’ll see how he goes. He’s also mates with Hamish Hartlett, having gone to school with him as well as played at West."

Selection 63
JESSE LAURIE from Claremont, WA
Born: 21 / 9 / 1990 (age 18)
Height: 184cm
Weight: 90kg
Position: midfield

Blair Hartley said: “Powerfully built and tough. He played key position back for WA state U18s and showed strong ability to read play and intercept balls. But while playing for Claremont he has several high possession games through the midfield with a strong body and good clearance numbers. WA didn’t have a lot of key back options which is why he played there but at 184cm he is better suited to the midfield. He ran a 15.2 beep test at the state screening, beating everyone at the Draft Camp, so he shows excellent endurance with his strong body and has a determination to make the grade so we were very happy to use our last pick on Jesse."
