The club’s football department has invested significant time in assembling a line-up of individuals from the South Australian business, sporting and community sectors to address the Power’s leaders on the value of leadership and ways to demonstrate it both on and off the field.
Cunningham - who played 256 games for the Magpies between 1971 and 1983, and captained the 1979, 1980 and 1981 premiership teams before becoming the club’s inaugural AFL boss - ran a similar session with the previous group of Port Adelaide leaders.
After several years in chief executive roles within the South Australian public service, Cunningham is now a sought-after business consultant.

Port Adelaide’s General Manager - Football, Peter Rohde, says that the Power’s top players continue to benefit from leadership development and will continue to do so in the future.
“Brian (Cunningham) took our current (leadership) group and some potential leaders of the future through a session on Monday,” Rohde told PortAdelaideFC.com.au.
"At the start of each year we've planned a series of leadership addresses from keynote speakers and this was one of several we've scheduled for this season."
“They went through a research task into authentic leadership values and ways these can be applied.
“Brian talked footy with them as well, but the session primarily focussed on the way they can demonstrate their leadership skills in ‘the Monday to Friday.'
“It’s been a great advantage to us to have a number of influential people come in and just talk about these things and it will continue with different speakers throughout the year.”
