PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus has denied claims made on Adelaide radio that a potential deal with midfielder Travis Boak had stalled because of a falling out with Boak's manager.

It was alleged on Thursday night that Tom Petroro (Boak's manager) of Stride Management was upset with Primus because the coach had expressed his discomfort that Petroro managed a number of Port Adelaide players.

But Primus was shocked at the claims, insisting he hadn't met Petroro until earlier this week.

"I don't know his manager," Primus said.

"I met him two days ago in Peter Rhode's office and had a great discussion with him about his players, but that's the first I've heard about it.

"I spoke to him about his players, he's saying they're feeling great here at the club, they're enjoying it."

Boak will spend the bye weekend with his family in Melbourne and will speak to Petroro, with no deal to be finalised until his return.

Primus remained cool on Boak's future.

"[Boak's] obviously going home over the bye and speaking to his mum and dad and his sisters and coming to a decision then," he said.

"Were still pretty confident we'll keep him."

With Boak certain to field offers from cashed-up Victorian clubs, Primus denied the Power were bidding for his services, claiming the real issue was where the club was headed.

"Knowing Travis, money doesn't have a huge issue [in] it," he said.

"It's about where we're going as a club and no doubt he's probably going to get some good offers from Victorian clubs.

"He's very happy here, he's a leader amongst us, he's a best and fairest winner, so we'd be pretty confident he stays."

Primus also said the Power would be happy to welcome former Adelaide recruiter Matt Rendell onto the club's staff list.

Rendell is understood to be in talks with two Victorian clubs, but Primus said Port Adelaide CEO Keith Thomas had been in discussions with him.

"We think he brings a unique and a different look to how we're drafting, which is adding value to what Geoff Parker does, who's an outstanding recruiter," he said.

"I know Keith Thomas is working pretty hard with him there, I think it's a matter of what Matt's doing next year perhaps and how that commits compared to this."
