Key Collingwood players Heath Shaw and Dale Thomas will miss this weekend's clash with hamstring injuries as Collingwood continue to battle a series of critical leg-related injuries.
Collingwood has confirmed that both Shaw and Thomas will miss the game against Port Adelaide and the Anzac Day clash against Essendon on Wednesday.
Collingwood released a statement today, with Director of Football Geoff Walsh confirming the news.
“Heath suffered a minor hamstring injury at the end of training on Wednesday, while Dale hasn’t fully recovered from a slight hamstring disruption he sustained against Carlton last week, which is disappointing,” said Walsh.
“While the injuries to both players are relatively minor, because of the timing of our matches over the next two rounds, both players will be unavailable for selection against Port Adelaide and Essendon.”
The news further compounds the injury crisis at Collingwood, with Luke Ball out for the season with a knee injury.
Luke Ball will miss this weekend’s clash with Port after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
Ball is the third Collingwood player to require a knee reconstruction in 2012 with Andrew Krakouer and Brent Macaffer both out indefinitely with similar injuries.
The injury is a headache for Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley, who is again deprived of a quality player in its engine room.
"He's a phenomenal individual. I can't stand here and tell you it's not going to hurt the club because a bloke with his character and with his football pedigree not out on the field is going to really challenge our structures," said Buckley.
"It's going to challenge the personnel that have existed around him for the years he's been at the club - it's an opportunity for [them]."
Collingwood’s injury front has improved however throughout the return of Ben Johnson to the club’s VFL side and Nathan Brown being named in reserves’ best players.
Last year’s grand finalist has a big challenge in the next week, with just a four day turnaround between its clash with the Power and the traditional Anzac Day match with Essendon.
