BRISBANE LIONS physical performance manager Brett Burton has confirmed that defender Matt Maguire is likely to miss the rest of the year through an ankle injury whilst skipper Jonathan Brown is a certainty to play.

Maguire injured his ankle against the West Coast Eagles in Round 18 and
returned in Brisbane’s win over the Crows on Saturday night.

He was subbed off during the second term and is unlikely to be selected against Port Adelaide this weekend.

“Given the amount of training he’s had over the last three or four weeks, he (Maguire) is probably unlikely to play over the next couple of weeks,” he told lions.com.au.

“So we’ll probably look to do some surgery in another area where he needs a bit of a tidy-up, but we’ll make those decisions in the coming days.”

Teammate Jonathan Brown collided with the behind post in the final term against the Crows but is a certainty to play.

“The big fella’s fine - I think he was probably trying to milk a bit more time to get his breath back! He’s fine and won’t take any (injury) into the game this week.”
