Tom Logan (for Tigers v Eagles)
26 disposals, 11 marks, 1 tackle, 8 clearances, 4 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s, 2 goals
Tommy was again Player of the Week with another very solid game. He was as good as anyone on the ground with 26 disposals, 8 clearances and kicked 2.1. Playing on-ball and half-back, his mix of inside toughness and outside ‘gut-running’, defensive and offensive spread was very good - another outstanding performance.
League
Steven Salopek (for Port Adelaide v Panthers)
16 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 3 clearances, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s, 1 goal
Sal wasn’t as dominant as he was during his Foxtel Cup debut. He played mainly on ball and half forward and had 16 possessions, so his numbers were down. He had some good inside stuff and got a bit outside and was a solid part of a good win for the Magpies.
John Butcher (for Port Adelaide v Panthers)
8 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance, 2 goals
We were conscious of how well John could run out a game with a hip injury so the decision was made to play him for about 70% game time in the SANFL. He got through well but was cramping and pretty fatigued late in the game which justifies our decision not to play him in the AFL. What he did do, especially in the first quarter, was showed that he had some movement and jumping back which is what we were worried his hip would stop him from doing. He took some good contested marks and although he was reasonably quiet overall on the day, he kicked 2.2 and imposed himself in the air better than he had previously.
16 disposals, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 2 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50.
Played on the half-back line and a wing in an improved performance for Cam from previous weeks - he’s still a fair way off his best form - he had 16 possessions and did some of the competitive stuff that we’re used to seeing from him which was good. He also ran and carried on a number of occasions, so whilst he’s off his best there are encouraging signs.
21 disposal, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 9 clearances, 2 inside 50s
D-Rod played forward and on ball, starting really well with a number of possessions early and continued having involvements throughout the day. It was a reasonable effort from David and he helped clear the ball from stoppage a number of times.
Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Roosters)
9 disposals, 3 marks, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50
Tommy played down back and picked up Daniel Stewart in a tough ask - Daniel’s been very solid at SANFL level. Tommy is very solid in everything he does, defensively he’s very competitive and he continued that form. He kept Snowy [Stewart] to just one handball in the first half, but in the second he only played on him here and there as Tommy’s opponent was changed. Overall a real solid game by Tom, not a lot of the ball as far as offensive footy goes, but he definitely shuts his opponents down and does a good job offensively.
Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Roosters)
13 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles, 2 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 3 goals
Flip ended up kicking three goals and was very lively around the ground. He took a knock to his shoulder in the last quarter and popped his shoulder out. He managed to get it back in and continued to work hard for Norwood.
Aaron Young (for Roosters v Redlegs)
15 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 4 inside 50s
Youngy is still playing really good footy, working hard, coming up the ground and spending a little bit of time on ball as well. We’re really happy with where Youngy’s at with his footy at the moment - he’s performing really well.
Daniel Stewart (for Roosters v Redlegs)
10 disposals, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 12 hit outs, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s, 1 goal
Snowy had a really slow start in the first half and just couldn’t get himself into it but in the second half he lifted his game. He played in the ruck, centre half forward and full forward. He ended up kicking North’s final goal, which put them up by 7 points, and the Roosters’ managed to hold on. We’re still looking for a lot more from Snowy.
Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Redlegs)
12 disposals, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance, 6 rebound 50s
He played down back and had a solid game. There are still areas we’re working on with him but he continues to play consistent football and picks up the Roosters’ main opponents so it’s pleasing to see the way he’s been developing.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Bulldogs)
10 disposals, 6 marks, 1 tackle, 5 hit outs, 1 goal
Dan played forward and ruck, he ended up with 1.1 (should’ve had 3 goals again) and took some nice contested marks. He rucked pretty well, but Centrals dominated the game and it was pretty lonely for him while he was up forward. Westies have been pretty happy with what he’s been doing for them.
Matthew Lobbe (for Bloods v Bulldogs)
11 disposals, 5 marks, 1 tackle, 18 hit outs, 2 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50
Lobbe played 60% game time in the ruck and up forward - getting 18 hit outs, 11 possessions and a couple of tackles. His movement around the ground is really good and got into some decent positions. He’s up and running, moving well and if wanted him for the AFL team he’d be up and around for selection - he’s hunting the ball well and that’s something we love to see.
Reserves
Brendon Ah Chee (for Port Adelaide v Panthers)
12 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 3 clearances, 1 goal
Had one of his most disappointing games for quite a while against South, Brendon was a lot quieter than he has been - he didn’t seem to have the energy or the work rate - as a result only had 13 possessions and didn’t have the impact on the game we’d been hoping for. A minor setback for him after having a month of pretty solid form so he’ll stick at it.
21 disposals, 3 tackles, 6 clearances, 1 inside 50, 2 goals
Played mainly on a wing and at half forward. Jarrad had 23 disposals and kicked the ball really well. He’s still working on some work rate issues but he had 5 tackles, three resulting in ‘holding the ball’ free kicks from some strong tackles and chasing, and that’s a positive as it’s a particular area he’s focussed on improving. He kicked 2.1 in a ten minute burst in the third quarter - he has the talent and has been reminding us of why we picked him up. Hopefully he’ll push for League selection in the next few weeks.
Ben Newton (for Bloods v Bulldogs)
21 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 1 hit out, 7 clearances, 2 inside 50s
Played midfield again, ended up with 24 possessions, 4 clearances and played another pretty solid game. He’s been working on his spread from stoppages and trying hard to get into the Bloods’ league team. He’s been close the last couple of weeks so hopefully he’ll be around the mark.
