For the fourth consecutive week, the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week Award has been given to a ruckman, with Matthew Lobbe taking the cake this week. Lobbe played his best game for the season according to development coaches Darren Trevena and Daniel Healy and was also named in the Magpies’ reserves’ best.

Lobbe was dominant up forward and in the ruck for the Magpies, showing some very promising signs in just his first year with the Power.

The award, which is judged by Power development coaches, Healy and Trevena, is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.

Lobbe had to beat strong competition for the award, with recent AFL debutants Mitch Farmer and Ryan Williams also having standout games. Here’s the full wrap…

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Matt Lobbe (for Port reserves v Glenelg reserves at Alberton)Played in the ruck and up forward in his best game for the year. Had 21 possessions, 8 marks and 19 hitouts and just continues his improvement. If the season was to go a bit longer he’d probably be promoted to their league team. It was really pleasing to see all his hard work rewarded with a great performance on the weekend.

Jonathon Giles (for Central v West at Richmond)Gilesy got promoted to the league after a great performance last week. He did some great ruck work and just needs to keep working on his positioning around the ground. Some promising signs from him on the weekend though.

Ryan Williams (for Central v West at Richmond)Ryan continued his outstanding season with 34 touches and 11 marks. Played good, tough footy and Central awarded him best on ground at their presentations.

Ryan Willits (for West v Central at Richmond)Started well with a couple of goals but tapered off slightly later in the game. He had 12 possessions and kicked 2 goals.

Fabian Deluca (for Sturt v South at Unley)Had a sensational first quarter – rucked well, hunted the ball, used the ball well and looked aggressive, he really meant business. He tapered off a bit later in the game but he’d set the standard for the rest of the team and that certainly contributed to Sturt’s big win. Had 8 kicks, 7 handballs and 3 marks as well as 27 hitouts from 40 contests.

Mitch Farmer (for Sturt v South at Unley)Mitch played a bit everywhere. Played tough and hard and provided good run for the Double Blues. He’s a very versatile player and he’s playing good footy at the moment. His numbers were 18 kicks, 13 handballs, 4 marks and 0.1.

Greg Bentley (for Sturt v South at Unley)Played half back and on a wing. Looked impressive on the wing and just keeps racking up the touches at SANFL level. His endurance really stands out too. He had 18 kicks, 8 handballs, 10 marks and kicked a point.

Adam Thomson (for Sturt v South at Unley)Started up forward and didn’t have a huge impact. Went on the ball in the last quarter and just dominated with 12 possessions in that quarter alone. Finished with 26 touches and 2 goals.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Norwood at Woodville)It was Nick’s first run back after injuring his neck. He moved well and he’ll be better for the run. Took some nice contested marks and kicked 3 goals. Always looks dangerous when the ball comes forward. Finished with 10 kicks, 3 marks and 3 handballs. It will be another big game for Nick this week when the Eagles play Port for a finals spot.

Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v Eagles at Woodville)Played ruck and up forward. Didn’t have much of an impact on the game but he worked hard to get into the right positions. Certainly still looks dangerous at times.

Nathan Krakouer (for Port reserves v Glenelg reserves at Alberton)Krak returned after a long stint out with a hamstring injury, which appeared to have him a bit tentative in the first half. He let himself go in the second half for 17 possessions including plenty of his trademark class. It was good to see him get through unscathed too.
