THE Port Adelaide Football Club has eclipsed its 2011 membership tally, but needs supporters who haven’t signed up to get on board and push past our 40,000 target.

Our 36,625th member signed up on Monday 23rd April, taking us past last year’s total.

2012 PAFC Members - Recruit a Member to win

Port Adelaide chief executive officer Keith Thomas thanked those who’d committed to the club by becoming members for 2012.

“It’s great that we’ve reached last year’s total,” Thomas said.

“We’ve put in a lot of work both on the field and off over the past seven months or so and we are thankful to those supporters who have recognised that and become members.

“Our members are magnificent. They demand our best every day, which is exactly what great clubs are built on.

“We are committed to maintaining our effort and repaying the faith these people have shown us.”

Port Adelaide will not rest with merely passing the 2011 figure, and is continuing to work towards meeting its target of securing at least 40,000 members for the current year.

Thomas called on supporters to take the next step and help the club achieve its ultimate goal.

“To achieve sustained success at this level, Port Adelaide needs its army of loyal supporters to join or re-join as members,” he said.

“There’s still a couple of MCG’s full of Port Adelaide supporters out there who are not members of the club. All those people have the capacity to make a massive difference if they sign on as members.”

Together, our members provide a boost to the entire Port Adelaide community - from supporters and fellow members, through to players and the club itself through vital revenue.

“Port Adelaide has always fought above its weight in everything that it’s done, but it needs its fans to join us on this journey to make it once again the strong and successful club our people know and love ”, Thomas said.

“There is a football arms race going on in terms of player recruitment, sports science and IT, and facilities. The gap between the haves and have nots is growing.

“We have made a lot of progress, but Port Adelaide is still ranked in the bottom three in the AFL in regards to football spend.

“If membership does not grow, and our other revenue streams with it, Port Adelaide will get left behind. We must not let that happen.”

Thomas said increasing membership would boost the club and help it embrace its future.

“We have a lot to look forward to in terms of our young exciting list, renewed spirit, the full benefits of the One Club reunification and of course the shift of our AFL games to Adelaide Oval in just two seasons,” Thomas said.

“We are committed to getting this right. But we have to do this together, and we have to do it now.

“If you want to really support Port Adelaide, become a member - and join the fight!”

Through its We Are Port Adelaide campaign and mission statement, Thomas said the club had pledged itself to put its people - including its members - first.

“We understand it’s a two way street. Port Adelaide must always be true to its ‘give everything, never-say-die’ values and our teams know that this is not negotiable,” Thomas said.

“We also accept the challenge of providing a better experience for our members whether it’s on game day, at the club or in their day to day dealings with us.”
