The elder Burgoyne started and ended his career at Port Adelaide. He was part of the first squad put into the AFL from the SANFL when Port Adelaide obtained the second license for a South Australian side, debuting in Round 1, 1997, against Collingwood at the MCG. He has played a total of 240 games for Port Adelaide. A member of the Indigenous Team of the Century, Burgoyne represented Ausrtalia in 2003 in the International Rules series, played in the 2004 Premiership side, and was voted the club’s best finals player in 2007. He retired at the end of 2009.
