Key Port Adelaide defender Jackson Trengove is calling on the club’s faithful to get out to AAMI Stadium this Sunday and fire up the Power in Balfours Showdown XXXII.
“Fans expect plenty of big contests and players will need to put their head over the ball and put their body on the line - there will be plenty of that from us and it would be great to have heaps of our supporters out there to push us over the line,” he says.
The Power squad had a special training session at the Edinburgh barracks on Tuesday as the perfect preparation for this weekend’s 32nd edition of the Balfours Showdown.
Exposed to live firing and military training exercises, Trengove and his teammates are primed to go in one of the Power’s biggest games of 2012.
“It’s a massive week (Showdown week), the city really gets behind it and we’re obviously playing our archrivals so it’s built up more than any other game of the year - I’m excited to get out there,” said Trengove.
“No matter where the teams are situated on the ladder or how they’re playing it’s always a tight, tough contest which is want we want.
“Our boys fire up (for Showdowns)."
With Port Adelaide’s next five games against non-finalists from 2011, Trengove sees the Showdown as a perfect opportunity for the Power boys to re-enter the winners circle and build momentum towards the mid-season bye.
“I’ve only played in one or two (Showdowns) now - last year’s first one was pretty big for us - we were down by 30-odd points but we slowly chipped away and ended up running out winners.”
“We’re frustrated because we’re not winning and we know we should be.”
“This week is a great opportunity to play some good footy against a quality opposition and get a win. It’s always more exciting to get a win against the Crows and that’s what we want to do.”
Tickets for the Balfours Showdown XXXII are still on sale via Ticketmaster. First bounce is at 4.10pm following a defence forces curtain raiser as part of Anzac Round.
