FOUR POINTS

The longest drought
Last week the Power played at a venue it hadn’t (and still hasn’t) won at since 2006. On Saturday it will play a club it hasn’t beaten anywhere since 2006. The Bulldogs have had an extensive winning run – consisting of seven straight victories – at AAMI Stadium, TIO Stadium and Etihad Stadium and will be looking to stage another upset this weekend after its strong showing against Collingwood last Sunday. Port Adelaide on the other hand will be looking to end its miserable run.

A better streak...
While Port Adelaide’s winning run against the Bulldogs might not be great,  its unblemished ledger at the Adelaide Oval has certainly been a facet of its strong ladder position this year. With just five home games left this year, the Power will look to take its home ground advantage to its eighth in a row on Saturday, and remain a chance of beating its all-time winning run at a home ground.

Lessons learned
Port Adelaide learned plenty from its Round 13 loss to the Swans at the SCG. Although it learned what it takes to match it with one of the league’s powerhouse sides at its home ground, it also took some positives away from the result. While the Power lost by four points, it did recover the momentum after a poor first quarter and took the fight to the Swans – winning most key stats and looking a chance to win right up until the final bell. If it can do so against the Bulldogs, and hit the scoreboard with fervour, it will keep itself in very good stead come late afternoon on Saturday.

Still in the hunt
Speaking of scoreboard impact, Jay Schulz’s four-goal haul on Saturday kept him in the Coleman Medal hunt, ensuring he sits equal with Tom Hawkins at the top of the league’s leading goal kicker tally. Averaging almost three goals a game, Schulz remains a focal point for the Power up forward and with dynamic assistants like Angus Monfries, Chad Wingard, Robbie Gray and swingman Justin Westhoff providing ample support, he will have plenty of scope to keep his big hauls coming for the rest of the season.
