The Port Adelaide Football Club traded the oval shaped Sherrin for the round ball of the world game on Wednesday morning, as it got behind Adelaide United’s bid to win the A-League Grand Final this weekend.
Star of the preliminary final - goalkeeper Daniel Beltrame, scorer in the prelim Carl Veart and star winger Travis Dodd all visited Alberton Oval to have a light run with the Power in lead up to Sunday’s decider against Melbourne.
The three of them all double as Power fans and were happy to wear the new club's new JOIN THE REVOLUTION army-style cap.
The Power players got stuck into some soccer drills, with a number of players showing as soccer wannabes they make great footballers. One player who did seem to adapt quite well was new recruit Nathan Krakouer who went kick for kick with Travis Dodd in a juggling exercise much to the delight of those egging him on.
With Port Adelaide being in a similar situation as United going into the 2004 AFL Grand Final, coach Mark Williams offered these words to his players when introducing the United stars: “Some of the stuff we’ve been going through over the past couple of years of not quite making it and then actually getting there, Adelaide United are living the same dream and obviously it is one of the most exciting weeks of their lives….and we wish you all the best.”
The Power squad jumped at the opportunity to don the Reds strip while training and they’ll all be glued to their TV’s come Sunday to cheer United to Victory! (Pun intended).
