PORT ADELAIDE defender Miles Bergman has been announced as the AFL’s NAB Rising Star nominee for Round 21.
The 19-year-old was recognised for his performance against Adelaide on Saturday night, when he had 23 disposals to go with four tackles and four clearances.
In his first full season of AFL football following a year interrupted by injury and the club’s inability to participate in the SANFL in 2020, Bergman has been a consistent performer, playing 19 of a possible 20 games.
Renowned for his composure and versatility, with injuries impacting the side across the season he has played off half back, on the wing and even at half forward, booting five goals so far.
Drafted from Sandringham as Port Adelaide’s first pick in the 2019 draft at pick 14, Bergman made his debut in Round 1 this season.
The Hampton Rovers product is the second Port Adelaide player behind forward Mitch Georgiades to receive a nomination for the NAB Rising Star Award in 2021.
The Rovers will receive a community awards pack on behalf of NAB.
If Bergman or Georgiades are successful in being voted the 2021 Rising Star, they will become just the third Port Adelaide player to receive the honour after Michael Wilson (1997) and Danyle Pearce (2006) and mark the club's highest finishing player since Connor Rozee's runner-up placing in 2019.
