TRENT McKENZIE is expected to miss a month of football but Port Adelaide could welcome back some defensive reinforcements for Sunday’s match against Greater Western Sydney.

McKenzie came from the field in the first quarter of the weekend’s game against Geelong and was unable to return. Scans have confirmed the 31-year-old suffered a partial tear of his right PCL.

The club is expected to have several players who didn’t take on the Cats available this week with Jeremy Finlayson, Miles Bergman and Kane Farrell recovering from the virus that kept them out, and defenders Lachie Jones and Aliir Aliir progressing well through the concussion protocols.

Forward Charlie Dixon, who withdrew from the side with a foot complaint, will be assessed as the week progresses but will need to prove his fitness to take on the Giants.

Scott Lycett is recovering well from surgery to clean out some cartilage in his left knee. The ruck underwent the procedure on Friday and a timeframe for him to return to running will become clearer in the coming days.

Fellow ruck Sam Hayes is also progressing towards a return following an AC joint injury suffered in training, while defenders Tom McCallum (appendix) and Nathan Barkla (quad) are each a chance to resume playing this week.

Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name a squad to tackle the Giants before finalising the selected side on Friday afternoon.

Sunday’s game at Adelaide Oval gets underway at 4:10pm ACST.
