PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Shineah Goody is the Week One Telstra AFLW Rising Star nominee after an impressive debut in Saturday night’s Showdown.

Goody was recognised by the Rising Star judges after racking up 15 disposals for 423 metres gained and a goal in the game at Alberton Oval.

She also had six inside-50s, four score involvements, five intercept possessions and laid four tackles.

The 18-year-old is the first Port Adelaide player to be nominated for the Telstra AFL Rising Star award since ruck Matilda Scholz in Round 2 last season.

Signed by Port Adelaide as part of the 2023 Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Pre-Signing Period after coming through the club’s Next Generation Academy, Goody was last year’s Best and Fairest for Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFLW.

After growing up playing for the Southern Eagles in Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula, Goody had a dominant 2022 NAB AFLW National Championship in which she was named tournament MVP, South Australian MVP and All-Australian.

She backed it up in 2023 with a second Under 18 All-Australian honour, finishing runner up as tournament MVP.
