JUST WEEKS after playing in the first game for premiership points in China, Port Adelaide will make another historic step when it features in the first ever premiership season game on Mars.

OK, so we're not talking about Earth's nearby neighbour, but a place a little closer to home.

Mars Chocolate Australia - that company that makes the chocolatey, caramelley candy bar - is the new naming rights sponsor for the former Eureka Stadium in Ballarat, which hosts the Round 22 game betwen the Bulldogs and Port later this year.

Now known as Mars Stadium, the venue has recently undergone a $21.976 million redevelopment. 

Mars bars are made in Ballarat and are a big employer in the local area.

Port Adelaide travels to Ballarat to play the Bulldogs on Saturday 19 August.
