Saturday night was special.
In front of his family and loved ones, we honoured John McCarthy in the most respectful and fitting way possible. For those of you who were able to share the night with us, thank you. Your enthusiasm was incredible, and the players fed off it as they clawed their way back into the game after a predictably slow start.
So we’re 2 and 0, preparing for a much-anticipated Balfours Showdown. Rest assured Kenny and the team will be ready to go.
Our job is to keep backing them up.
This Balfours Showdown is our home game. For many of our team this will be their first taste of one of the great rivalries in our sport. For Jake, Ollie, Angus, Campbell, Kane, Lewis and for all the others in our team it would be an enormous lift to feel a stadium full of Port Adelaide support - you saw how inspired they were on Saturday as we ran down the Giants.
I encourage you to do whatever you can to get there.
Membership is also an incredibly important show of support. On Saturday we launched the ‘Drive to 40,000 – Powered by Renault’ campaign ... with the support of our great partners Renault.
Reaching 40,000 members - for the first time ever - would be a massive statement to the entire football community that Port Adelaide is back and in full voice! We are within touching distance of the target at just over 36,000 but history tells us these last few yards are the hardest.
This is where we need your help.
If a supporter hasn’t joined up by now, there is often a reason. They may have been unhappy with something that has happened in the past, or are unsure of the future. Some people just haven’t got around to it yet, or don’t think that one extra membership is going to make a difference. Don’t let them think this way! Work your magic, and convince them otherwise!
If they join, we can talk to them and engage with them about everything that’s going on with the club these days. We can keep them informed about Adelaide Oval. And they can be part of something special, the re-emergence of our club as a legitimate force in this competition. A journey that has already begun.
To those of you who are already members, thank you. To those who aren’t, I urge you to get on board.
It’s all about momentum.
Every single membership counts.
And don’t underestimate the importance of turning up en masse this week at AAMI. It’s critical.
