HIS HEROICS have haunted Crows fans for years and Robbie Gray could be in line to do it again, with a potential return from injury for Saturday night’s Showdown at Adelaide Oval.
Gray has not played since Round 14, when he tore the medial ligament in his left knee and had surgery.
Having returned to full training this week, the 33-year-old will give the selection committee something to think about given his record five Showdown medals and the need to get game time into him ahead of finals.
Fellow forward Boyd Woodcock is another who is around the mark, having been the unused medical substitute last weekend and playing the week before against Collingwood, finishing with a goal from nine disposals, along with three marks and two tackles.
With no SANFL at the weekend and no competitive hit-out for those players not selected for the win over Greater Western Sydney, there were limited opportunities for those players to push their claims.
But, with several players coming off the injury list in recent weeks, there are no shortage of options for selectors to consider.
Defenders Tom Clurey, Jarrod Lienert, Martin Frederick and Joel Garner have all been in good form, while midfielders Sam Mayes, Jackson Mead and Jed McEntee are each waiting for another opportunity to break into the AFL side.
Port Adelaide will name its side to face the Crows on Thursday evening.
Showdown L will be played at 7:10pm ACST on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval.
